Les Gam's

So, I moved to Beta Blogger. That's why my blog looks a little weird. But, now I can organize the posts into labels/categories, which will be easier for you, instead of looking through old archives. It will take a few days to label all the posts, but I guess it will be worth it! Btw, I got a few complaints about my filehost, Ohshare. Anyone else having problems?

Graziella, Annie, Michele and Suzy = Les GAM's!
Used to be Gilbert Bécaud chorus-singers. With Annie Markan in front, they began recording in September 1962 at Vogue Records, before signing a contract to Lee Hallyday at Mercury Records. In the beginning of 1963, they got their first hit 'Il a le truc', a cover of The Exciters' 'He Has The Power'. On June 22, 1963, they took part in the "Night of the Nation" event, with Claude François on the stage, gathering nearly 150 000 young people. They recorded five EP's before their split in 1964.

There are 3 big problems I have with ohshare: 1.Having to disable Adblock to get the link (which causes several problems that will take too long to list) 2.Half the time when I click the link it goes to a page with a Quicktime logo and a question mark 3.The download link stops working if you don't click on it almost immediately. So it's really inconvenient for multiple downloads.

Basically all these reasons add up to it being extremely time-consuming or not working at all.

Wouter is using mydatabus.com - see my comment on the Xmas blog about how excellent this host was to download from.

Well, I like that I can just right-click and save the file with mydatabus, rather than being redirected to another web page...

Love the blog! Thanks for all the amazing music.

I never experienced any of the problems Christine described. I often have multiple ohshare windows open, click the download link whenever I want.
Using a Mac, my only grieve is I can't upload with Safari, but Firefox works fine.

However, at the moment ohshare seems to be overloaded, this happens to every share server I've used. They work fine for a while until they get too popular.

I've recently tried http://filho.com and http://mihd.net/ (both recommended in the comments here I believe) but found them both rather slow. I think I'll switch to mydatabus for now :)

Love Les Gam's !

Hey Lush!
I totally prefer mydatabus! Right-click-and-save is a cool feature!

And hey..., many MANY thanks for your really damn great big blog!
I really dig (singin' and swingin') French 60s girls!!! Angry, sweet, wild, smooth, bad and lovely: GREAT!!!
And so: you're my f***ing FIRST address!
THANK YOU for letting me listen to all these great songs and 7''s I'll never could buy in my whole damn life.
Cheers mate,
all the best from Germany,
Chris Leftover

I'm a fan of mydatabus.com -- I started using it because they accept uploads over 100 MB and really like it so far. As everyone else has said, the right-click aspect is very convenient.

For the uploader is the same thing for me.

For the tunes, they sare great twist-a-surf songs.

Attention, Accident, it remember me some surfs song like Surf Bunny Beach by the Surf Bunnies...
But it not seems really a cover.
Someone know something?

Hi Sofie,

I’m with Christine on this one. Haven’t had any problems with mydatabus yet, right-click is always favoured by me, steady and pretty fast.
I’m a believer....

Mydatabus works great, thank you. 90 kb/sec for each download, that's fair enough. Any chance that you transfer your other links to mydatabus while reorganizing your blog? That would be great.

Thanks for all the lovely stuff you're presenting.

Mydatabus appears to be more efficient (in the one case I was able to test it out). However, now neither are working. I'm having the same problem (with both sites) for the Les Gams files, that I had with the Gelou and These Boots... files. The page states the file is "O kb" or it downloads an empty "0 kb" file.

i'm having some problems downloading as well...as long as the files are uploaded with databus it seems to be working but otherwise i can't get anything.

italian beat, if you read this...

...Attention accident is a cover of the Beach Boys' Shut down.
However, 99 percent of Les Gam's repertory is made of covers...

Les Gam's recorded, as far as i know, only one original tune, L'ete Revendra. But their covers were almost all excellent, ranging from well-known songs (The Beatles' 'All My Loving', 'My Boy Lollipop', to well-chosen but more obscure numbers (three different Exciters tunes, Bob B Soxx & The Blue Jeans' 'Why Do Lovers Break Each Other's Hearts?' and, bst of all, The Angels' 'Wow Wow Wee'.
They did not stay together long, but there is a video on You Tube of them singing 'Il A Le Truc' at a 1991 reunion gig, ans sounding even better than before!
