Happy birthday yesterday Jane Birkin (60) .. and Happy Birthday to me today (2*) ;)

Gitte Hænning Johansson was born 1946 in Denmark. She started in show business at a very early age, 6 while touring and recording together with her father Otto. In the 60´s Gitte recorded many songs in both Danish, Swedish and German and she became an international star both as singer and actor.

Danish Delights (8) - Vivi Bach

The Danish Brigitte Bardot
Vivi Bach (Vivi Bak) was born September 3rd 1939, in Copenhagen.

She started as a hairstylist but ended it to pursue a modelcareer, with great success.
She was soon known as the first Danish teenager, and recorded some albums for Phillips in 1958-1958, but not with the same impact.
More success had she with some Danish films, though she was not the biggest talent.

In 1960 she got a music contract in Germany, and became a popular tv-host. Bach and Dietmar Schönherr were the hosts of a controversial German television program in the late 60s famous for nearly drowning an entire family is a staged car accident but nevertheless managed to score a chart hit with this bizarre, cheerfully arranged single endorsing radical leftist politics and terrorist tactics. It's a pretty fascinating relic from the era, to say the least.
Since then she became a tv-producer in Germany, but visited Denmark regularly to perform and record Danish records in 1970's.
Today she share homes in Schweiz and on Ibiza with her husband Dietmar Schönherr.

In Denmark she is more known as an icon and a small actress than a singer. It's actually pretty hard to find her Danish records, but if you can't get enough of Vivi's german records, look her up at ebay.de

Jørgen Ingmann - Apache

Someone requested this a long time ago, so here it is!

Jørgen Ingmann, originally a jazz guitarist from Denmark, also produced a cover version of Apache that, billed to Jørgen Ingmann & His Guitar, made it to number 2 on the US pop chart and 4 in Canada in 1961, thereby preventing the Shadows' original from charting there.
A real classic.

Danish Delights: The Lollipops

A popular Danish 60's teen group.
Debuted in 1960 when they were only 10, 9 and 12 years old. Their tracks feature pre-pubescent saprano crooning from brothers Torben and Jørgen Lundgreen. On the song "Do You Know (How Much I Love You)" they sing, "I want to be your man boy, oh yeah!"

The Lollipops were introduced to the Swedish audience by the pirate station Radio Syd. In record time they had received idol worship and fan hysteria never experienced before.

Danish Delights: Birthe Wilke

Birthe Wilke (born, March 19, 1936) is a popular Danish singer. She grew up in a musical family in Copenhagen's Vesterbro area.
Already as a teenager she won a talent competition at the National Scala Theatre in Copenhagen, sang as solist with Bruno Henriksen's Orchestra at Tivoli and made her first recording. She was named "Denmark's Doris Day" and recorded "Que sera sera" in 1956.
After qualifying in the Danish Melodi Grand Prix to represent Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest, she participated in Eurovision Song Contest 1957 where she sang ’’Skibet Skal Sejle I Nat’’ (literal translation, The Ship is Leaving Tonight) with Gustav Winckler. They ranked number 3, and stunned television audiences with a 32-second long kiss at the end of their performance.
She also participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1959 where she sang solo ’’Uh-Jeg Ville Ønske Jeg Var Dig’’ (”'Oh - I wish I were you”'). She ranked number 5.

This beautiful song won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1963. It was performed by the couple Grethe & Jorgen Ingmann. The music was composed by Otto Francker and the lyrics was written by Sejr Volmer-Sörensen.

I can't find any information about these two wonderful girls. I bought the record only because of it's cover. Luckily the music is great!
I know that Peter Mynte wrote the lyrics and Ole Hoeyer made the music to 'Sikke' de ka'. 'Det Har Jeg Altid Oensket Mig' is a cover of Mike Hawker and Ivor Raymonde's 'I Only Want To Be With You'. But I know nothing about the singing girls.

Die Dorthe aus Dänemark

Born 17 July 1947 in Copenhagen, Denmark
"It was a great experience to record the first single in Germany, without understanding a single word that I was singing"

Her father was a conductor and trained with her . In addition she had instructions in dance and pantomime. In 1967 Dorthe had her first hit with "Sind Sie Der Graf Von Luxemburg". In 1968 she was placed second in a German hit competition with "Wärst du doch in Düsseldorf geblieben" The single LP for the song sold gold.

Danish music: Dansevise

Grethe and Jørgen Ingmann was the first Danish winners of the Eurovision conest. After some trouble with the vote, the Danish couple Grethe and Jørgen Ingmann won the 1963 Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Dansevise’ (Danceballad), which became a bestseller in Scandinavian countries. They gained 42 points – two more than Esther Ofarim for Switzerland.
